About the Project

Enter your House

Hello, and welcome to the Family Survivor Self-care Toolkit. Although these materials were developed in consultation with an advisory group from the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) to specifically help bereaved military family members, the content is relevant to anyone who has had the loss of a family member. It is a place where you can find information, materials, and resources that help and provide self-care tips.

The toolkit is modeled as a house that includes eight rooms and spaces, each of which is related to a different theme relevant to grief adaptation. Each room or space includes information that is available in a variety of different formats. In the introduction to each room there is a brief overview of the specific themes that are addressed in that section of the toolkit. There are also survivor stories, which are videos of individuals who have lost loved ones and share experiences from their own life journeys, as well as professional videos. In addition, there is a resource section where you can gain access to information from other websites to help you in your own grief journey.

Finally, for those who choose to create an account, you can use the “My Self-Care Journey” section of the program where you can add, save, and download notes related to your own grief self-care journey. Please take the opportunity to explore all the spaces in the house. Some rooms may feel more relevant to you than others, and some spaces may be more challenging initially, but become important to you as you move forward in your grief.
